Dying not to eat’ – eating disorders amongst people with diabetes

R92.00 incl VAT

Eating disorders do not discriminate. They are complex mental health disorders that can affect anyone.

All too often in the busy clinic, health matters that aren’t in direct sight can be overlooked – the spectrum of eating disorders amongst people with diabetes are often under-recognised and under-treated.

Given the magnified morbidity and mortality risks associated with eating disorders, it is imperative to screen and detect those most at risk as early as possible. Early intervention is critical to support optimum health and decrease the chances of acute and chronic complications.

Insight into and the ability to provide the complex and comprehensive management of diabetes in combination with an eating disorder is however not always available. This session aims to empower clinicians who work with these at-risk clients, with foundational knowledge and understanding to develop and implement appropriate treatment strategies where they practice.
