With a prevalence of up to 22%, heart failure is a common, yetunderappreciated potential chronic complication of diabetes. Heart failure may be thefirst presentation of cardiovascular disease in many people with diabetes, but notably, it may even develop in people with diabetes in theabsence of hypertension, coronary heart disease, or valvular heart disease.

Dietary modifications, which are individually tailored, are vital in the management of heart failure. Furthermore, the presence of heart failure is yet another factor that adds to the considerable pill burden experienced by people with diabetes. As such, insightful measures are needed to enhance medication adherence.
